Wood strips flooring is a method of finishes on screeds. Long pieces of hardwood timber are jointed using tongue and groove method to make floor boards. This type of floor finish can be used in low and high traffic areas and is more durable than most timber floor finishes like parquet or wood blocks. The process of laying them is labor and material intensive. The finished product has Very Good aesthetic values. Unlike other timber floors its not easily damaged.
The procedure of laying wood strips flooring is important to achieve the desired product. Once the concrete slab is completed and ready for flooring, measure out the room size and mark lines on it. Make sure that the lines are about one foot apart running the longer distance. Drill holes into the floor slab for plugging in screws on the battens, onto which the strips are nailed or screwed on. The battens are one inch thick by two inches wide.
After the battens are secured on the slab, add a screed of cement and sand while using a wooden float to smooth it. The screed should be level with the battens. Pick the wood strips and start screwing on the battens after the screed is dry preferably after two days. Start laying from the wall side working into the room ensuring the tongue and groove is jointed strongly to have no gaps and wood glue is used to bond the strips into the screed.
When the laying wood strips flooring is compile, use a sanding machine and sand down to have a smooth finish. Apply pesticide first and the use polyurethane. The finish could be Matt or gloss. Apply the varnish in three coats. Once the varnishing is complete let the floor dry and then wax it to the desired taste. Flooring should only be done when most of hard works in the building are complete. The cost of the materials is high but the end result is durability.
