The word 'retro' applies to peculiar kind of jewelry and the credit of its finding goes to Francois Curiel, head of the jewelry department for Christie's Auction House in New York in the early 1970's. Associated with the period between 1935 and 1945, it was originated in France due to efforts of Van Cleef and Arpels.
Now the word 'retro' is associated with the lamps with their uniqueness lying in giving them modern look along with the newer technologies and materials like Lucite, melamine, and others. They are also created with ceramic, aluminum and glass. During 1960's and 1970's, these lamps were kind of atomic lamps, tiffany lamps, pendant lampshades, and most popular of all ball lampshades. Many of these table lamps had an influence of Eames Era. Charles Eames, an inspiring designer and architect, was the man to successfully present the style from 1930s to the 1970s by making use of the Molded Plywood as well as plastics and fiberglass.
You can still see the name Eames Era Lamps on many of the today's retro table lamps giving us the glimpse of the style of our past. The retro lamp cane in many designs and shape with the best among them you can find are Atomic lamps, fiber glass lamps, pottery lamps, Stained Glass lamps, Lucite lamps, accent lamps, alabaster lamps, antique lamps, and Eames era lamps.

Work of Charles and Ray Eames $19.48 Charles and Ray Eames gave shape to America's 20th century. From the 1940s to the late 1970s, the Los Angeles-based husband-and-wife team designed furniture, buildings, toys, films, graphics, exhibitions, and books that aimed to improve society -- not only functionally but culturally and intellectually as well. This comprehensive volume is published on the occasion of a major international traveling exhibition organized by the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C., and the Vitra Design Museum, Well am Rhein, Germany, the holders of the two richest Eames collections in the world. The Eameses' wholehearted belief that design could enhance people's lives remains their greatest lesson. Taking a fresh approach to their multifaceted careers, six generously illustrated essays examine the Eameses' projects in the contexts of science, corporate patronage, and politics as well as those of modern design, architecture, and art. |

Eames: Furniture 1941-1978 $19.48 Pioneers of the 1950s and of the optimistic American way of life, Charles and Ray Eames created the greatest modern furniture "classics" between 1941 and 1978. They designed more than 20 chair models, mostly unique pieces, and developed know-how in the art of sitting. The Plywood Chairs LCW and DCW (1946), the Aluminum Group (1958) and the Lounge Chair (1956) have become true symbols of design that remain references today. Still produced, they inspire the admiration of new generations to convey the generous social ideal of their designers. |

The Modern Era $29.99 "In final part of Tom Nettle's Trilogy, he traces some of the modern movements with the Baptist diaspora. Nettles looks at the downgrade in the British Church through the lenses of C.H. Spurgeon and John Clifford and the decline in America looking at the influences of A. H. Strong, E. Y. Mullins and the Baptist Modernists. Key outcomes are explored that inevitably fomulate out of Baptist theology (e.g. separation of church and state). The 'renewed contours' of the present day Baptist movement are also covered with particular reference to recent changes in the Southern Baptist Convention. This series is a triumph It serves as a neccessary addition to the story of the church" |

Countering Piracy in the Modern Era $9.95 In March 2009, the RAND Corporation convened a small group of experts from the U.S. government, allied partner nations, the maritime industry, and academic organizations to discuss piracy in the modern era. Participants concluded that mitigating the complex nature of maritime crime requires the input of all stakeholders--state, national, private, and nongovernmental--and must embrace measures beyond the reactive deployment of naval assets. |
