Still, you would be surprised how many people don't even bother measuring their countertop before shopping and then end up buying a stool that won't fit under the edge of the counter or that sits too far below it. So, how do you know what height to order?
These stools come in several standard heights ranging from 24 to 26 inches (Seat Height) to taller stools (up to forty-eight inches). 24-inch bar stools are considered "short stools" and are less likely to be used at an actual pub than in one of the other locations mentioned before. Still, to determine if this is the correct height for your counter, measure the height of the counter from the floor to the counter's top. Then, subtract the counter's depth plus the average size of a human's thighs. After all, they should sit at the bar, not abreast of it. The twelve-to-sixteen inch range seems to have been reached by some non-scientific process. Using this formula, if your countertop is three inches thick and 42 inches from the floor, your stool should be around 27 inches at seat height. Since stools lower than 24-inch bar stools, are often considered custom-orders, using a 24 or 26-inch stool in this situation makes the most sense and saves money, too.
