So, you finally have your dream Slide Out shelves and feel like you are in control of a prestigious restaurant when working in your newly organized kitchen but if you are like many other people, you may have encountered a minor problem. While these designs do traditionally allow for more usable space and convenience, they are not without a flaw or two due to improper planning. Whether you installed them or had a commercial designer come in and do it for you, a few simple tweaks could improve the functionality of your shelves.
Sliding Problems
Regardless of the material that was used for your racking system, sliding issues are common. This problem is usually a result of sliders that have been incorrectly installed or if they happen to become bent for whatever reason. Whether you have wooden or Stainless Steel kitchen shelving, check that the sliders are exactly parallel by using a level. You may just need to make a very slight variation to the mounting.
Maximum Shelf Capacity Exceeded
It is always recommended to use some type of industrial strength material with your shelves. You would be surprised how heavy glass mixing bowls or canned goods can get. Clearly, what may be suitable for your spice shelf is not going to hold the weight of other kitchen objects. Always look for shelves Made From durable materials to ensure that they can withstand components in your kitchen.
While rear mount sockets are typically suggested for use by manufacturers, this method really is only ideal if the shelf will be holding Tupperware, snacks and other light products. The plastic brackets that often accompany these shelving sockets can only handle up to about 50 pounds at the most before they break. Keep this in mind when you go to the hardware store to buy supplies. It is also important to note that plastic brackets can become weak and dry if they are exposed to excessive heat in warmer environments.
Scratches on Shelves
Not due to anyone's fault, cabinets can become scratched by these shelves. Just as your car keys scratch up your Kitchen Table, your shelves will leave their marks on your cabinets if they are not closed all the way. This can easily be remedied by adding plastic bumpers on the shelves. Slide out shelves are a welcome edition to any kitchen but from time to time, they may need a little attention like everything else in your life. Address minor concerns early before they turn into frustrating problems later.
