A captain's bed is a particular type of bed design that has its roots in past maritime history and yet has succeeded in remaining popular as the Storage Bed of choice for many people. Storage Features
This is the most important element in a captains bed. An attempt to make extra storage space on wooden vessels was originally the driving feature in the design of these types of beds. An officer's quarters were quite tight and providing a sleep space with a "dresser" of sorts underneath it was a perfect use of space. Today, this design offers people ways to get the most out of their bedroom space while still enjoying the design of their Bedroom Furniture.
These beds are made with various amounts of drawers underneath their platforms. Twins may have only three drawers on one side or 6 on all sides. A Queen Bed can have as many as 8 drawers which include 6 on each side and 2 at the foot. Storage space is sometimes provided within the design at the headboard as well.
